When
Debbie
Gray was only 11 years
old, she knew she was not only going to be an artist when she
grew up, but that she already was an artist, through and through.
The encouragement of her parents and teachers only fueled the
fire within her to create, learn, and grow. As an adult, Debbies
love of art continued to expand as she received formal and informal
training in the various mediums from graphic design to
airbrush, from commercial art to oil pastels. As the single
mother of two young daughters, Debbie supported her family by
using her skills as an artist to design thousands of t-shirts
sold in souvenir shops throughout the United States, Cuba, and
around the world. Many of these t-shirts are still in production
today.
Being
an artist isnt what I do its who I am,
Debbie says. Its the essence of me.
Today,
Debbie still dabbles in the various mediums, and with a multitude
of topics, but continued to focus on her favorite subjects
children and animals. Her childrens art adorns more than
t-shirts today, though. Now its in the form of murals
on the walls of daycare centers and childrens bedrooms,
or commissioned prints in private homes.
I
love creating art for children coloring books, t-shirts,
baby animals and other characters. Illustrating childrens
books has been a life-long dream of mine, and now my partner
and I are creating our own set of picture books for children,
with our original characters.
Debbie's
life is one perfect example, that if you want something bad
enough you can make it happen, and "dreams do come true"!
Debbie says, "God gave me this gift. Now I just want to
share it with others". And she is.
